| Course Syllabus | Learning2Give is a website design competition organized by the Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island West, which is one of 29,000 clubs of Rotary International, a worldwide charitable organization with more than 1.2 million members in 160 countries. Learning2Give is now approved by the Hong Kong Educational Department and is also a recommended project in the Life Wide Learning of Hong Kong Ed City website: http://www.hkedcity.net. In organizing this project for the 5th year, we aim to achieve the following goals:
Specifically, each school will send a team consisting of 3 full-time Form 4 to Form 7 students, who have not participated in Learning2Give previously. However, we will allow lower Form students to join the Competition provided that one of the students in the team must be attending Form 4 or above. The first 16 schools to register will be eligible to participate. Each team will be randomly assigned a Hong Kong charitable organization that requires a new website, and will design a functional website for that organization. Once the allocation is made, participants should obtain the necessary information from the designated organization. Each participating school is required to assign an IT teacher, who will actively supervise the students work and serve as a member of the board of judges to evaluate websites other than that from his/her own school. Macromedia and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University have kindly agreed to conduct 6 interactive training sessions for the students. The training sessions will be held on 6 consecutive days, starting on July 21, 2003 at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. All teams will submit
their final website designs by September 30, 2003. Evaluation
will be based on assessing the merits of each website in the following
areas: creativity, content, user-friendliness, functionality, overall
impact, and the students interaction with the charitable organization,
attendance record and their meeting of various deadlines. The website
handover ceremony and exhibition will be held on October 14, 2003.
The result of the Competition will be announced in mid November and the
award ceremony will be held in December, 2003, during
which trophies and prizes will be presented to 5 winning teams. In addition,
students from the 5 winning teams will have summer work opportunities.
Moreover, there will be gifts for all participating schools and students
to acknowledge their contribution to the project. All of these are made
possible due to the generosity of Gennett International, Hioe
Fong Architects, HK Communications, Hong Kong Polytechnic University,
Kaplan Educational Center, Ling Kee Group, Macromedia, MTRC, Panasonic,
Philips and Shun Hing. | Introduction
