The
Final of
the Competition was held at at the Baptist University on December
19, 2009. President
Edward Chow, PP Tony Yue and Rtn. Tony Yip were
the judges. Chan Mei Si and Lam
Ah Tak of St. Paul's Co-educational College are the winners
of the Junior and Senior Sections of the Competition respectively.
The Semi-Final
of the Competition was held at at the Baptist University on December
5, 2009. President Edward Chow, Vice President
Norman Yeung, PP Victor Lim and Rtn. Barton Lee were the
judges.
The
Communication Skills Workshop & Seminar on the Importance
of Language Skills to our Workforce
was held at LT1, 5/F of the Cha Chi-ming Science Tower at the
Baptist University on November 28, 2009.
453 students participated in the Preliminary
Essay Competition of the 6th Biliteracy
and Trilingualism Composition and Speech Competition, which
was held at the Kiangsu-Chekiang College (Shatin) on October 24,
2009.
Students who participated in the Junior Section had to compose
two 300-word essays in Chinese and English within a period of
2 hours, while those of the Senior Section had to compose two
500-word essays in Chinese and English within the same period
of time.

For
the 2nd year in a role, our Club sponsored 10 mainland senior high
school students from Guangzhou and Shenzhen to attend the two-week
2009 Summer Engineering Academy organized
by the Faculty of Engineering of the Chinese University of Hong
Kong.

Biliteracy and Trilingualism Composition and Speech Competition
project won The RI Significant Achievement
Award for the Rotary Year 2006-2007. This is the second time
our Club won this prestigious award, which is presented to the most
outstanding club project in a Rotary International District during
a Rotary Year. In the 2006-2007 Rotary Year only 50
Clubs out of a total of 32,000 Rotary Clubs won
this prestigious award.

The
Rotary Centennial Institute for Wetland Conservation is
a community service project with an environmental and educational
objective. It was organized jointly by five District 3450 Area
5 clubs, including the Rotary Club of Hong
Kong Island West, the Rotary Club of Hong Kong North West, The
Rotary Club of City Northwest Hong Kong, the Rotary Club of Mid-Level
and the Rotary Club of the Peak. The project goals were
to upgrade and renovate the WWF Hong Kong Peter Scott Field Studies
Centre at the WWF Mai Po Nature Reserve, to facilitate the education
of the community and international visitors on wetland habitat
and conservation and to train professionals on wetland management
and sustainable development.
