Our Club received
the Caring Organization Award
from the Hong Kong Council of Social Service on February 20, 2008.
The Caring Organization award acknowledges our Club's care for
the intellectually-disabled children
in our society. President Tony Yue and IPP
Allen Au attended the Awards Ceremony at the Hong Kong
Convention and Exhibition Centre.
To promote
the importance of mastering English and Putonghua to our youth
and to improve their ability to become biliterate, our Club and
the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers jointly organized
the Biliteracy & Trilingulism Composition
and Speech Competition (兩文三語菁英大比拼).
A total of 445 participants from 82 schools participated in the
4th Biliteracy
& Trilingulism Composition and Speech Competition.
Of the 445 students, 206 participants are from the Junior Section
and 239 are from the Senior Section.
The Preliminary Essay Written Contest
was held at the Lutheran Secondary School on October 20, 2007.

To
enhance the awareness of environmental protection and to alleviate
the problem of air pollution in Hong Kong, our Club and the Environmental
Protection Department have jointly organized the
Turn Off Idling Engines & Healthy Living
project.
The Launch Ceremony of the project was held at the Hong Kong Park,
Olympic Square on December 2, 2007 and
was attended by about 100 people, including guests, students, Rotarians
and Rtnne, Interactors as well as supporters and sponsors of the
project, including EMSD, Hong Kong Automobile
Association, SF&OC, Artline
Facilities Management, Crown Motors Ltd., Grosvenor, Macy's Candies,
Sino Estate Management, Sun Hung Kai Properties, Tai Fook
Securities and Town
Gas.
The officiating guests of the Ceremony included AG
Peter Choy, Assistant Governor of Rotary International District
3450, Ms. Wong Sean Yee, Anissa, JP, Permanent Secretary for the
Environment, Dr. Leong Che Hung, GBS, JP, Member of Executive Counci,
Mr. Pang Chung, BBS, Hon. Secretary General of SF&OC and President
Tony Yue. 7 elite Hong Kong athletes, including Li
Ching, Ko Lai Chak, Ho Ka Lai, So Wa Wai, Chan King Yin, Mak Kar
Yan, and Chiu Chung Hei were the Environmental Protection
Ambassadors of the Project and took an oath with the student volunteers
of Stl Louis School and Cheung Pui Chung Secondary School to promote
"Turn Off Idling Engines & Healthy
Living". After the Launch Ceremony, student
volunteers went to Central, Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui, and Mongkok
to distribute flyers and souvenirs to drivers to promote the Project.

advertisement in the Sing Tao Daily on Ocotber 24, 2007. Our Club's
Biliteracy and Trilingualism project was featured in the advertisement
for having attained the Rotary International
Significant Achievement Award in the Rotary Year

Our Club supported the World Water Monitoring
Day 2007 Ceremony,
which was held on October 15 at Polver Cove Reservoir. President
Tony Yue received a souvenir from the Director of Water Supplies
Department, Mr. Chan Chi Chiu.
Congratulations to PP Joseph Lu. His
two daughters, Natalie Lu played the
lead role as "Annie" and Emily Lu
played the role as "Brenda" in the local production of
the famous Broadway Musical - Annie. The play was presented by Hong
Kong Chorus Society and co-presented by Theatre Space between 9-12
August, 2007 at the Sha Tin Town Hall Auditorium. PP

Biliteracy and Trilingualism Composition and Speech Competition
project won The RI Significant Achievement
Award for the Rotary Year 2006-2007. This is the second time
our Club won this prestigious award, which is presented to the most
outstanding club project in a Rotary International District during
a Rotary Year. In the 2006-2007 Rotary Year only 50
Clubs out of a total of 32,000 Rotary Clubs won
this prestigious award.

The
Rotary Centennial Institute for Wetland Conservation is
a community service project with an environmental and educational
objective. It was organized jointly by five District 3450 Area
5 clubs, including the Rotary Club of Hong
Kong Island West, the Rotary Club of Hong Kong North West, The
Rotary Club of City Northwest Hong Kong, the Rotary Club of Mid-Level
and the Rotary Club of the Peak. The project goals were
to upgrade and renovate the WWF Hong Kong Peter Scott Field Studies
Centre at the WWF Mai Po Nature Reserve, to facilitate the education
of the community and international visitors on wetland habitat
and conservation and to train professionals on wetland management
and sustainable development.
